Self Assessment
Overall, I think my website accounts for all parts of the rubric, and I'm really happy with my results! I'm really pleases with my Dear Reader and my tutorial. I loved creating the tutorial so much, I created a separate blog to make more tutorials for many people to use. That was definitely my favorite part. A really frustrating part of this project was finding sources for this topic, which was only because there weren't any..well hardly. However, the ones I did find were really helpful and informative.
I didn't use my media center time and computer lab time well at all. Instead of looking for sources, I was surfing the Web for new nail designs that I could use for the coming holiday seasons (Thanksgiving and Christmas). If I could go back and do it over again, I would probably do the same thing only because I work better away from the class room environment. At my house I worked diligently, usually two to three hours per day, every other day over the break. This helped me keep from getting burnt out. I only did about two tabs per day, except for the research paper. I did that one in a day by itself. Something surprising about my topic is that a lot of people are interested in it. I know this because I've gotten a lot of emails from Weebly saying my website has reached 50 views the second day it was published! That's crazy to me because if that's true, then why haven't more people made websites dedicated to nail art sooner?
My best source was definitely Refinery29.com (one of the online magazines). Not only did this site have tons of useful facts, but it also had some examples of the past designs. I'm pretty sure if I only used that source, my paper would have still been informative. This project was more laid back than my other traditional academic papers, however, with that said, I found it to be a TON of more work than just writing a dry paper. I'm pretty sure I'd rather have done this instead of a paper still. I found myself thinking constantly "Ugh it's so much work! Why can't I just write a paper and be done?!" But when I was actually creating the site, I had a lot of fun. It's just so much more in depth, and it was fun creating the artistic pieces of the website such as the layout and the colors used.
