Notes
Tutorial: I decided to have this tutorial because I wanted the readers to experience how much fun nail art is and how easy it is to express ideas and beliefs onto such a small surface. This was to show how people could create designs on their nails to display their thoughts, feelings, and beliefs on a canvas that can always be seen by everyone around them.
Survey: This artifact doesn't really teach about the history of nail art, but it does display how girls perceive the symbolism of their nail color and design. Most didn't create designs unfortunately, but they did mainly use dark colors. This could be an unconcious act of rebellion (to their mothers that is). Statistically, the parents of high school generations grew up with more "conservative" colors, such as pinks and reds. Our mothers happened to miss the period of rebellion (the 1990's) when black was the most popular color.
Nails Through the Ages: This artifact was my most informative because it gave a detailed display of all the nail designs used throughout history. This helped me understand how exactly the designs looked which were completely different than what I thought they'd look like only after reading the description.
Instagram Account: My Instagram account shows my nails that were inspired by the designs I researched about. On many designs, I used exact colors and designs, such as the Half-moon from the 1920s, but on others, I used the old designs with a modern twist, in regard to the colors I used and the images I created (Aztecs - I changed the images and created a more tribal look than Aztec).
